ANEAQ Presents the First Results of Higher Education Programme Evaluations in Morocco
In an article published on 27 October 2017, Al3omk reports on the presentation in Rabat of the first activity report of the National Agency for Evaluation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Scientific Research (ANEAQ).
Established in 2014, the Agency presented the first data on evaluations of study programmes at public and private higher education institutions in Morocco.
The Agency’s missions in evaluating higher education
At this meeting, Mokhtar Bakour, then Director of ANEAQ, presented the main missions entrusted to the Agency, notably evaluating higher education institutions, research bodies and study programmes.
The scope presented included 125 university institutions, 58 management-training institutions, 28 higher education institutions outside universities, and 212 private higher education institutions.
The Agency also examines and evaluates study programmes for accreditation or renewal. The annual volumes mentioned exceeded 1,000 programmes in the public sector and 250 in the private sector.
755 programmes evaluated in public higher education
The report presented indicated that 755 programmes had been evaluated in public higher education. These evaluations covered several Moroccan universities and institutions outside the university system.
Among the institutions concerned, Hassan II University of Casablanca had 117 programmes evaluated, Abdelmalek Essaâdi University in Tétouan had 97, and Mohammed V University in Rabat had 85.
Other universities involved in this initial operation included Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez, Ibn Tofaïl University in Kénitra, Ibn Zohr University in Agadir, Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, and Moulay Ismaïl University in Meknès.
An evaluation spanning several fields of study
The distribution of programmes evaluated in the public sector highlights the diversity of fields covered by this initial operation.
Arts and humanities accounted for 198 programmes, followed by economics and management with 144 programmes, engineering sciences with 115 programmes, and physics and chemistry with 93 programmes.
The evaluations also covered private law, public law, life and earth sciences, university technology diplomas and health sciences.
255 programmes evaluated in private higher education
For private higher education, the report recorded 255 evaluated programmes across several private institutions and universities.
The institutions mentioned included Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences, the International University of Rabat and Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
The distribution by field of study showed 129 programmes in legal and social sciences, 65 programmes in science and technology, 40 programmes in health sciences and 21 programmes in arts and humanities.
An initial step in developing quality assurance
The presentation of these first results illustrates the progressive implementation of ANEAQ’s evaluation missions. It provides an initial overview of programmes evaluated in both public and private Moroccan higher education and documents the Agency’s work in its early years.
